EVANSTON, Ill. – The Wildcats fell to Ohio State at home 74-61 on Sunday afternoon.
Veronica Burton led the Northwestern offense with 16 points, eight rebounds, six steals and five assists. Jillian Brown and Paige Mott followed with nine points apiece. Brown also contributed four assists and seven rebounds.
Northwestern started slow before turning up the heat and going on a long 8-0 run in the middle of the first quarter, capped off by two fastbreak layups off two steals by Burton. Ohio State found a response late to hold onto their lead and ended the quarter on top. The Wildcats kept it close in the second quarter, ending the half with two huge three's from Burton, but were unable to close in on the Buckeye lead.
The 'Cats hit a wall in the third quarter and fell behind Ohio State's offense. A final push in the fourth quarter proved too little, too late and the Wildcats fell to the Buckeyes.
Northwestern will hit the road next week where they will face Illinois on Thursday at 7 p.m. on the Big Ten Network.
