EVANSTON, Ill. – Northwestern returns from a 19-day pause and three missed games on Thursday, Jan. 6 against No. 22 Iowa at Carver-Hawkeye Arena. Tip-off is set for 7 p.m. CT and will be televised on Big Ten Network.
The Wildcats' game against Oregon was canceled while their games against Minnesota and Michigan State were postponed.
The 'Cats will be wearing Gothic uniforms, as has become customary in some of their biggest games. In 2019-20, the 'Cats were 4-0 in the uniforms with wins over Maryland, Michigan, Indiana and Michigan State.
Senior guard Veronica Burton nearly finished with a triple-double in the 'Cats last game, a 68-58 win over Temple. She totalled 12 points, 10 assists, eight rebounds, four steals and committed no turnovers or personal fouls. It was the third double-double of her career and second with points and assists.
Burton leads the Big Ten in steals per game (3.7) and ranks second in assist-to-turnover ratio (2.84) and free throws made (72). She ranks sixth in the entire country in win shares (5.2) per Her Hoop Stats.
First year Caileigh Walsh leads the Big Ten with 2.3 blocks per game and leads all rookies in the conference with 10.3 points per game.
While Iowa leads the all-time series 57-17, Northwestern swept the Hawkeyes last year in the regular season for the first time since 1982-83.
In those two games, the Blizzard defense held phenom Caitlin Clark to an average of 16 points on 40% shooting and 29% from deep. The 'Cats had a turnover margin of +12 in those two games.
