Wildcats Outlast Lady Lions for 4-3 Victory

RALEIGH, N.C. – Northwestern closed the ITA Kickoff Weekend with a 4-3 win over Penn State on Sunday in Raleigh.
The 'Cats claimed their first win of the 2022 duals season and
The Wildcats claimed the doubles point to get off to a fast start thanks to a 6-4 win from Briana Crowley and Maria Shusharina at No. 2 and a 7-5 win from Christina Hand and Justine Leong at No. 3.
With the match at 1-1, first-year Sydney Pratt breezed through a 6-0, 6-2 win at No. 4 singles over Karly Friedman to take a narrow lead.
Penn State tied the match again at 2-2, but Ema Lazic delivered a straightforward 6-3, 6-3 win over Alina Lebedeva at No. 5 singles to make it 3-2.
Justine Leong fell at No. 3 in a three set decision, 3-6, 6-3, 6-4 to Gabrielle O'Gorman.
With the match tied at 3-3, Hannah McColgan clinched the result at No. 6 singles with a 7-6, 6-4 win over Alexandra Nielsen in her season debut in singles.
The 'Cats are in action once next weekend with a road trip to No. 12 Georgia Tech on Sunday.
