Thomas, Davison Help 'Cats Drop Illinois

EVANSTON, IL – Northwestern picked up their first conference victory of the season, taking down Illinois 26-13 behind falls from Yahya Thomas, Andrew Davison and a 15-0 technical fall from Ryan Deakin.
Troy Fisher, Lucas Davison and Michael DeAugustino added decisions as the Wildcats left State Farm Arena with a Big Ten win, after beginning conference play with four-straight matches against ranked opponents.
Thomas got the first win of the day for Northwestern, a first-period pin of Christian Kanzler to secure six points for the Wildcats. It was Thomas' second conference win of the season and his third victory by fall this season.
In the next bout, Ryan Deakin racked up over four minutes of riding time - including a takedown and four near fall points in the first 20 seconds of action - as he dominated Joe Roberts in a 15-0 tech fall.
In a high-scoring 20-13 affair, Andrew Davison pinned Nikita Nepomnyashchiy to give Northwestern all the momentum they would need to close out the Illini.
The Wildcats return to the mat in Evanston on Sunday at 2pm CT as they continue Big Ten play against Maryland.
