EVANSTON, Ill. – Northwestern hosts No. 23 Iowa on Friday night at Welsh-Ryan Arena in the second matchup between the 'Cats and the Hawkeyes this season. Tip-off is set for 7 p.m. CT and will be streamed on B1G+.
The Wildcats handed then-No. 22 Iowa their only conference loss of the season in Iowa City on Jan. 6, a 77-69 win for NU. Veronica Burton totalled 25 points, 8 steals, six rebounds and six assists.
The 'Cats own a three-game winning streak against Iowa and will look to claim their second season sweep of the Hawkeyes in a row. Sophomore star Caitlin Clark has yet to claim a win against the Wildcats.
Northwestern is in the middle of a season-long three game losing streak after falling to No. 12 Maryland on Sunday, 87-59. The Terps knocked down 18 threes, the second most in a game by a team in Big Ten history.
Friday features a matchup between arguably the best offensive and defensive guards in the country in Clark and Burton, who was named to the Naismith National Defensive Player of the Year Watch List on Tuesday.
Burton ranks third nationally in steals per game and leads the Big Ten in steals per game for the third season in a row. She is one steal away from seventh place in Big Ten history.
Junior guard Laya Hartman continues to make key contributions for the Wildcats and made two threes for the seventh game this season against Maryland. It was her second career start.
