EVANSTON, Ill. – Northwestern travels to Ann Arbor to take on Michigan on Wednesday. Tip-off is set for 5:30 CT and will be televised on Big Ten Network.
The Wildcats are 9-8 on the season and coming off the first three-game stretch against top-10 opponents in program history, picking up a road win at No. 10 Michigan State in the process.
Last time out, the 'Cats fell to No. 4 Purdue at Mackey Arena, despite five three-pointers from Boo Buie.
Northwestern's success this season has come from preventing turnovers on offense and forcing them on defense. The 'Cats are second in the conference with a 4.71 average turnover margin and rank fourth in Division I with a 13.0% turnover rate on offense and 6.7% steal percentage, according to Kenpom.com.
Chase Audige and Julian Roper II have dominated on the defensive end for Northwestern. Audige ranks second in the Big Ten at 1.8 steals per game and leads the Wildcats with 18 steals on the season, despite missing the first seven games due to injury.
First-year guard Julian Roper II earned his first career start at Purdue, contributing seven points, four rebounds, and three steals. Roper II is second among all Big Ten first-year guard with 19 steals and joins Alex Fudge of LSU as the only first-years in the country with at least a 4.0% steal percentage and 10.0% rebound percentage.
The Wildcats rank second in the Big Ten at 17.8 assists per game, thanks in large part to Boo Buie. Buie's 5.5 assists per game is tied for the Big Ten lead, and he is the only high major player to average at least 15.0 points and 5.5 assists per game this season.
Pete Nance went a perfect 3-for-3 from the field and 2-for-2 at the line against Purdue, continuing to raise his impressive shooting percentages this season. Averaging 16.1 points per game while shooting 51.8% from the field and 44.0% from three, Nance is on pace to become the first Northwestern player since at least the 1992-93 season to average 15.0 points per game while shooting at least 50% from the field and 40% from three.
