EVANSTON, Ill. – Northwestern visits No. 12 Maryland on Sunday at the Xfinity Center for a 12 p.m. CT tipoff on B1G+.

The Wildcats are 3-3 in the Big Ten and 11-6 overall after dropping a home decision to Penn State by a 63-59 scoreline on Thursday night. 

The 'Cats committed 18 turnovers and were 5-11 from the free throw line in the loss. 

Veronica Burton put up 16 points on 6-12 shooting and added seven assists, five steals and three rebounds. 

Junior Laya Hartman made her first career start in her 32nd game and added 10 points on two made threes. 

Northwestern leads the Big Ten in blocks per game (6.0) and steals per game (10.5) They own the fourth best scoring defense in the Big Ten. 

Burton is putting on a clinic defensively this season, and averages 4.3 steals per game, the third most in the country. She is one steal away from her fourth season on the Northwestern single season steals leaderboard and from seventh place on the Big Ten career leaderboard. 

Northwestern has one win against Maryland in program history, coming on Dec. 31, 2019, when the 'Cats defeated then-No. 12 Maryland 81-58. The Terps won both matchups last season with the second coming in the Big Ten Tournament semifinals.
