Northwestern to Host Pitt in ACC/Big Ten Challenge

EVANSTON, Ill. - ESPN, in conjunction with the Big Ten Conference and the Atlantic Coast Conference, announced on Friday the matchups for the 2022 ACC/Big Ten Challenge, with Northwestern set to host Pitt at Welsh-Ryan Arena on Monday, Nov. 28.
 
The all-time series between the two schools is tied, 10-10, with this season's matchup set to be the third meeting in the last four seasons. Pitt is making is second trip to Welsh-Ryan Arena as part of the ACC/Big Ten Challenge, narrowly defeating NU, 71-70, in 2020. Guard Boo Buie led the team scoring 14 points and distributing six assists.
 
This year's matchup sets the stage for Sullivan-Ubben head men's basketball coach Chris Collins to meet up with a familiar face in Pitt's head coach, Jeff Capel. Collins and Capel were teammates at Duke for three seasons (1993-96) and helped the Blue Devils reach the 1994 national championship game. Both served together as coaches with USA Basketball and assistant coaches at Duke from 2011-13.
 
Northwestern is 10-13 participating in the Challenge, and fell, 77-73, in overtime at Wake Forest last year. The Wildcats are looking for their first win since downing Boston College, 82-64, in 2019.
 
This year marks the 24th year of the Challenge, which started in 1999. Tip times and television designations will be announced at a later date, with ESPN, ESPN2 and ESPNU set to air all 14 of the event's games.
