EVANSTON, Ill. – Northwestern saw 10 of its varsity sports programs earn a perfect Academic Progress Rate (APR) score in the latest data released by the NCAA on Tuesday (June 14). All of the Wildcats varsity programs posted a score of 990 or higher.
Â
Northwestern field hockey, men's basketball, men's tennis, women's basketball, women's golf, women's soccer, women's tennis, lacrosse, volleyball and wrestling captured unblemished scores of 1000.
Â
As a department, Northwestern posted an average score of 997, besting the national average of 984.
Â
For the fourth straight year, the football program tallied a score of 995 or better, while pacing the Big Ten Conference and ranking fourth nationally in FBS (Football Bowl Subdivision).
Â
Men's basketball is one of two Big Ten hoops programs to record a perfect score and one of 20 nationally. The women's basketball, field hockey and wrestling programs each ranked inside the top two among Big Ten members for their respective sport.
Â
The APR, created to provide a real-time measurement of academic success than graduation rates offer, is a team-based metric in which scholarship student-athletes earn 1 point each term for remaining eligible and 1 point for staying in school or graduating. Schools that don't offer scholarships track their recruited student-athletes.
Â
The NCAA did not release its annual scorecard of academic achievement for all Division I teams last year (2021), taking a one-year hiatus due to the pandemic. The most recent APRs are multi-year rates based on scores from 2017-18 through the 2020-21 academic years.
