EVANSTON, Ill. – Northwestern finally opens Martin Stadium on Sunday when it welcomes Kent State for its home debut. Kickoff is set for 1 p.m. CT and will be streamed on Big Ten Network+.
The Wildcats are coming off a 2-0 defeat to No. 2 North Carolina on Thursday, a match where they largely held their ground and went toe-to-toe against the Tar Heels. Senior goalkeeper Mackenzie Wood made six saves.
The Northwestern offense has been led by Aurea Martin this season with two goals. Sophomore midfielder Josie Aulicino has a goal of her own and two assists.
The 'Cats have squared off against the Golden Flashes once before in program history in a 1-0 win in the first round of the 2016 NCAA Tournament.
NU is 1-3 on the season after playing its first four games on the road. The 'Cats won last Sunday at William and Mary in a 4-0 result featuring goals from Martin, Meg Boade and Aulicino.
Kent State is 3-1 on the season, with wins against Cleveland State, Youngstown State, and Canisius and a loss to Dayton.
Northwestern last played at Martin Stadium in their regular season finale in the spring of 2021, a 2-1 defeat to Illinois, in which senior Regan Steigleder scored. The 'Cats last home win was a 4-0 rout of Nebraska in March, when Steigleder scored once and Martin scored twice.
