DURHAM, N.C. – No. 3 Northwestern field hockey earned its third-straight win over a ranked opponent to open the season, picking up a 3-0 victory over the No. 12 Duke Blue Devils to open the ACC/Big Ten Challenge on Friday afternoon.
Northwestern scored midway through the first quarter and turned in a wire-to-wire performance en route to their second shutout victory of the early season.
The 'Cats turned in a masterful performance on both ends of the field, outshooting Duke 16-3 in the game while holding the Blue Devils to just one shot on goal–with zero shots in the last three quarters.
Graduate student Clara Roth scored twice in the victory, marking the first two goals of her Wildcat career.
Bente Baekers put the Wildcats on the board first just six minutes into the game after finishing off a pass from the endline. It marked Baekers' fourth goal of the season and 47th of her career.
Northwestern will be back in action this Sunday when they face off against No. 7 Boston College on Sunday at 10 am CT. Coverage will be streamed live on ACC Network Extra.
