Late Goal Helps Wildcats Take Road Point at Maryland

COLLEGE PARK, Md. – Northwestern scored a dramatic goal in the 90th minute to send the game to overtime, where it ended with a 1-1 draw at Maryland on Sunday afternoon.
The Wildcats dominated chances and had plenty of opportunities in the second half, but eventually found their equalizer with less than 30 seconds on the clock. Senior midfielder Francesca Docters scored the first goal of her career on an assist from senior forward Olivia Stone.
Stone registered the third assist of her season. The Wildcats had their chances to go on and win the game, but the wild affair settled at 1-1 after 20 scoreless minutes. While the shots were 12-11 in favor of the Terrapins on the afternoon, Northwestern walked away disappointed with just a point with the momentum and better chances to grab a winner.
Senior goalkeeper Mackenzie Wood made seven saves, a season-high, in the 110-minute contest.
Northwestern moved to 5-4-1 on the season and 1-1-1 in B1G with four points. After three out of 10 games, the Wildcats sit in a tied for seventh place, squarely in the hunt for the Big Ten Tournament with all three of their contests so far on the road.
The 'Cats return home for a much anticipated three-game homestand with a chance to make a push up the standings and towards the NCAA Tournament on the heels of a win over No. 12 Penn State on the road. The homestand begins Thursday night at Martin Stadium with a massive contest against rivals Illinois. Kickoff is set for 7 p.m. CT and will be streamed on B1G+.
