EVANSTON, IL — Northwestern Volleyball begins Big Ten play this week with a nationally-televised match in primetime against No. 12 Nebraska and a weekend road trip to face Illinois.
The Huskers arrive in Evanston on Wednesday night for an 8 p.m. match (Big Ten Network), before Northwestern hits the road to face Illinois at 7 p.m. (BTN+) on Saturday.
The Wildcats won a pair of matches at last weekend's Chicago Cup, taking down UIC in three sets on Friday before sweeping Loyola Chicago on Saturday night in front of a packed student section at Welsh-Ryan Arena.
The offense ran through juniors Temi Thomas-Ailara and Hanna Lesiak, as the team's outside hitters averaged 15.6 and 11.3 kills respectively in three matches at the Chicago Cup.
Alexa Rousseau managed the offense with a strong weekend at setter. The sophomore dished out 44 assists in the win over UIC, before flirting with a triple double (9 kills, 50 assists, 8 digs) against DePaul on Saturday.
In her Welsh-Ryan Arena debut, Leilani Dodson was a defensive force for the Wildcats. The BYU transfer posted her best hitting percentage of the season at 0.615 with eight kills against UIC, before a huge night (16 kills, four blocks) in Northwestern's three-set win over Loyola Chicago.
The Wildcats will face Nebraska and Illinois for the first time in two years, after matches against both schools were postponed last season.
In their last matchup against the Illini in 2019, Northwestern took down No. 17 Illinois in four sets on Senior Night.
