EVANSTON, Ill. – The Wildcats hit the road to put a four-game unbeaten streak to the test against Xavier on Sunday evening. Kickoff from Corcoran Field in Cincinnati is set for 5 p.m. CT and will be streamed on Flo Sports.
The Wildcats are 2-1-2 and coming off a scrappy 0-0 draw on Thursday night against Kyle Beckerman's Wolverines. The 'Cats are unbeaten in four straight matches after dropping the season opener and have posted shutouts in three of those four.
Northwestern's offense has been extremely balanced to start the season with nine different players collecting points on six goals. Four players have multiple goal contributions in first-year Paul Son, sophomore Justin Weiss, senior Bardia Kimiavi and sophomore Rom Brown. In the 4-1 comeback win on Labor Day against Kansas City, Son became the first Wildcat to score two goals as a first year since 2017.
The 'Cats have seen strong contributions from both goalkeepers this season wtih graduate students Miha Miskovic and Ethan Bandre both posting goals-against-averages under 0.65 in over 150 minutes of play.
Northwestern leads the all-time series against Xavier, 4-1-2. The two teams played to a scoreless draw in the last meeting on Aug. 26, 2018 in Evanston, Ill, a match in which six Wildcats played: Miskovic, Kimiavi, Richie Bennett, Julian Zighelboim, Spencer Howard and Connor McCabe. Miskovic made four saves in the double overtime shutout.
The Muskeeteers dropped the only meeting in Cincinnati between the two programs, 2-0, on Sept. 7, 2013.
This year's Xavier squad is off to a strong start at 4-1 with wins over Ohio State and Chicago State and a narrow 1-0 loss to No. 1 Indiana.
