Rams Select Earnest Brown IV in the Fifth Round

CLEVELAND – The Los Angeles Rams selected defensive end Earnest Brown IV in the fifth round of the NFL Draft on Saturday with the 174th overall pick.
 

 

Brown IV was the third Northwestern player taken in this year's draft, tying the most selections in the Pat Fitzgerald era (2006) with the 2010 draft. Brown IV is the first defensive end drafted out of Northwestern since Ifeadi Odenigbo in 2017, and the fourth defensive end taken under Fitzergald, joining Dean Lowry, Corey Wootton and Odenigbo.

While making 40 appearances for the 'Cats over four seasons, Brown IV racked up 70 tackles, 18.5 TFL, seven sacks, nine passes defended, forced fumble and two fumble recoveries.Both Phil Steele and Athlon Sports recognized him as a preseason All-Big Ten player prior to his senior season. His 8.5 TFL in 2020 were a career single-season high and ranked second on the team, helping him earn consensus honorable mention recognition from Big Ten coaches and media. The Aubrey, Texas, native recorded at least one tackle for loss in five straight games to end his Northwestern career.
