Wildcats End Season with a Bang, Beat Maryland 3-2

COLLEGE PARK, Md. – In their final match of the season, Northwestern reversed last night's results and came out with a win over Maryland, 3-2. The Wildcats will end their abbreviated season with a 4-6 record
Sophomore Abryanna Cannon led the offense for the 'Cats, putting up a career high 21 kills. She also added one more ace to her record, leading her team with 15 on the season. Fellow sophomore Temi Thomas-Ailara followed her offensive effort with 13 kills, for a whopping 154 on the season. First-year Alexa Rousseau led the court with 45 assists and led her team with 260 this season.
On the defensive end, senior Alana Walker posted seven blocks to end the season with a team high 36. Meanwhile junior Megan Miller recorded 22 digs, a new career high. She has led the Wildcat backline all season with an impressive 118 digs.
Northwestern once again took the first set off Maryland, 25-20. The 'Cats put up 13 kills and held the Terrapins to just a 0.026 clip, the lowest percentage by either team in the entire match. The Wildcats also excelled at the net, putting up three blocks.
The 'Cats repeated their success in the first set and jumped out to a 2-0 lead with a 25-19 victory in set two. On top of another 13 kills, Northwestern drilled four aces to send the Terrapins reeling.
Maryland made a strong comeback in set three and held the Wildcats at bay. They took the set, 25-13, and carried that momentum into the fourth set to tie things up. Set four was hotly contested with both teams putting up 13 kills, but the Terrapins just barely edged out the 'Cats 25-22.
The Wildcats kept it close in the fifth and final set and after tying it up at 12-12, a block from Walker put Northwestern on top and forced a Maryland timeout. Sophomore Charlotte Cronister served up an ace to extend the lead coming out of the timeout giving Northwestern the first match point. Rousseau pulled out her first kill to win the match for the 'Cats.
