MINNEAPOLIS, Minn. -- Allowing just two runs across 16 innings, the Wildcats picked up two wins over the Nittany Lions in a doubleheader on Saturday.

The 'Cats outscored Penn State 7-2 across the two contests, winning 2-0 in the first and 5-2 in the second.

NU received great production from the leadoff spot with Anthony Calarco going 5-for-9 on the day with a double in each game.

In the first contest, the 'Cats shut out the Lions in seven innings. Tyler Uberstine started off on the mound for Northwestern. He went for four innings allowing just four hits. Uberstine was followed by Coby Moe who allowed two base runners in his three-inning save.

The Wildcats struck twice in the second frame for the only two runs of the game. David Dunn got the inning started with a single. Evan Minarovic came up to the plate with no outs and doubled home Dunn. Immediately after the double from Minarovic, Vincent Bianchina knocked in Minarovic with a single to right-center for the second run of the inning.

In the second game, the Wildcats scored five unanswered runs to close the game. Relief pitching was strong for Northwestern with Reed Smith and Sam Lawrence combining for four innings of scoreless work. Reed Smith picked up the win for the 'Cats with Sam Lawrence picking up the save. The duo allowed just four baserunners in their four innings.

NU scrapped together a three-run seventh with all three runs coming with two outs. Anthony Calarco started the frame with a double and was moved to third by a Shawn Goosenberg groundout. After a Michael Trautwein groundout, David Dunn drove in Calarco with a single up the middle. The two-out rally continued with a Bianchina single and an RBI single from Leo Kaplan. The inning was capped off by Vincent Bianchina scoring on a wild pitch.

Chicago's Big Ten Team will finish the four-game series against Penn State at 10 a.m. CT. The game will be played at US Bank Stadium, home of the Minnesota Vikings.
