PISCATAWAY, NJ. – Northwestern defeated No. 15 Rutgers, 22-10, highlighted by another record performance from junior Izzy Scane.
Scane led the field with a career-high 10 goals, the most scored by a 'Cat in a single game in program history; finally breaking Selena Lasota's mark of nine goals. Senior Lauren Gilbert followed behind with five while graduate students Lindsey McKone and Sammy Mueller added two and three respectively. Mueller also contributed a game-high four assists alongside sophomore Erin Coykendall.
Led by Scane's offense, the 'Cats controlled every aspect of the game. They led in every category: causing 10 turnovers, grabbing 18 ground balls and pulling down 19 draw controls. Northwestern played great midfield defense, holding the Scarlet Knights to just 12 clears on 19 attempts.

Rutgers found the back of the net first, but they only managed to hold onto their lead for two minutes. Scane powered the Northwestern offense, scoring on the next possession to spur a short 3-0 run. She went on to score on back-to-back possessions, putting her at four goals in just ten minutes. The 'Cats found a long six goal run in the last fifteen minutes of the half, where Scane once again scored on back-to-back possessions and Gilbert followed suit. Rutgers responded with a run of their own, but it wasn't enough to eclipse the huge Northwestern advantage. The Wildcats went into the second half on top, 11-7.
McKone opened the second half with an unassisted stunner from a drive down the middle. Her goal spurred a 5-0 run which extended the Wildcat lead to nine points. The Scarlet Knights found a lone goal in response, but Mueller netted a quick goal to keep the momentum with the 'Cats. Scane followed her lead and scored three goals in a row to put her into double digits. Northwestern kept the second half firmly under their control, pulling off another 6-0 run to keep the clock running.
The Wildcats ran out the clock with a controlled effort, easily holding off the Scarlet Knights and taking the win. Northwestern will return to the field on Sunday at 11 a.m. to face Rutgers once more.
