Northwestern Ends Big Ten Tournament Run

INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. – Northwestern finished out their Big Ten Tournament run after falling to Maryland, 85-52.
Nine out of the 10 'Cats that touched the court found the basket. Junior Veronica Burton led the team with 14 points which put her at 1,004 career points. Senior Jordan Hamilton followed with 10 points.
Maryland came out strong and grabbed an early lead. Hamilton and Burton drained a pair of threes to help Northwestern keep up the pace. In all, five different 'Cats found the basket but the Terrapins were able to maintain their advantage.
Both teams came out shooting well in the second quarter, before the Terrapins pushed the momentum to their side with a large run to extend their lead. Burton responded late in the quarter, but the Wildcats found themselves down 49-24 at the half.
Burton opened the third quarter with a layup to reach 1,000 career points. Three more 'Cats posted points for Northwestern, but Maryland continued to outpace them offensively. Hamilton put up the last shot of the quarter to give Northwestern some momentum going into the final frame.
The 'Cats grabbed a short 6-0 run to open the fourth, but Maryland found a stop and Northwestern was unable to catch up. First-year Jasmine McWilliams ended the game on a high note, draining a three.
Northwestern hopes to end their season on the court in the NCAA tournament. The selection show will be Monday night at 6 p.m. CT on ESPN.
