This Week With the 'Cats, Feb. 10
Northwestern University athletics will have five programs in action this week, including the season-opener for lacrosse.
Lacrosse
The Northwestern lacrosse team hosts Ohio State this Sunday, Feb. 14 at noon for their season-opening game. They return to competition for the first time since March 9, 2020.
The 'Cats went 4-3 in the truncated 2020 season, a year after reaching the semi-finals of the NCAA Tournament in 2019. Northwestern ranks #5 in the Intercollegiate Women's Lacrosse Association preseason poll and #6 in the US Lacrosse Magazine preseason poll.
Five 2020 All-Americans return to the team this year, including first-team defender Ally Palermo, second-team attacker Izzy Scane, third-team attacker Lindsey McKone, third-team midfielder Brennan Dwyer, and honorable mention Lauren Gilbert.

Cross Country
Northwestern cross country travels to Iowa City this Saturday, Feb. 13, for the Hawkeye B1G Invitational.
The Wildcats participated in the Hoosier Hills Invitational last weekend to kick off their indoor season. Junior Rachel McCardell led the 'Cats with a victory in the 3000M with a time of 9:39:70, outpacing the second-place finisher by four seconds.
Three Wildcats finished in the top ten of the one-mile finals, including sophomore Kaela Bartolotto, first-year Emily Casaclang, and sophomore Olivia Verbeke.
Wrestling
Northwestern wrestling returns to action this Sunday, Feb. 14, as they welcome Wisconsin to Welsh-Ryan Arena at 2 p.m. CT for Senior Day.
Last time out, the Wildcats fell to #9 Illinois. #3 Michael DeAugustino picked up his second win in two matches on the season with a victory over #13 Justin Cardani at 125 lbs.. True first-year Maxx Mayfield also picked up his second victory of the year at 157 lbs. with a decisive 8-2 victory.

Fencing
Northwestern Fencing welcomes Wayne State and Lawerence to Welsh-Ryan Arena for a tri-dual on Sunday, Feb. 14 at Patten Gymnasium.
Last weekend, the 'Cats picked up two wins at the OSU Invitational with victories over Denison University and North Carolina. The sabre squad led the way for Northwestern, defeating Temple, Denison, North Carolina, and Penn State in succession to close the weekend. First-year Sky Miller went 5-1 on Sunday and 8-1 over her final three dual appearances on the weekend.
Women's Tennis
The #8 Northwestern women's tennis team heads to Lincoln to take on Nebraska on Friday, then travels to Iowa City on Sunday to take on Iowa.
The Wildcats are coming off a fantastic weekend at the ITA Indoor National Championship, defeating #10 Oklahoma State 4-0 and #9 Ohio State 4-3. This is the highest the Wildcats have been ranked since the 2018-19 season.
