Northwestern Eyes Fifth Straight Win Against Temple

EVANSTON, Ill. – Northwestern aims to continue its season-best four-game winning streak on Friday night against Temple at Welsh-Ryan Arena. Tip-off is set for 7 p.m. CT and will be streamed on B1G+.
The program is excited to welcome fans early for Willie's Winter Wonderland, a holiday themed tailgate starting at 5 p.m. outside Welsh-Ryan Arena.
The pregame tailgate will include holiday-themed activities and opportunities to take photos with Willie's Sleigh as well as characters Elsa, Anna and Olaf from the movie Frozen. In addition, attendees will have the chance to enjoy warm bites and sweet treats from local food trucks, while taking in the wonderful sights of purple twinkling lights, festive decorations, and performances of your favorite holiday cheers.
Admission to both events is free with the purchase of a game ticket. Tickets may be purchased at nusports.com.
The Wildcats improved to 6-0 at home on Tuesday with a 55-46 win over Milwaukee in a defensive battle. Both teams shot under 30% from the field and 25% from deep. Northwestern had a crucial 20-4 advantage in bench points.
15 of those points came from juniors Laya Hartman and Kaylah Rainey, with two threes each. Rainey set a career-high with eight points while Hartman added seven one game after her career-high outing against Delaware.
First-year Caileigh Walsh battled it out with All-Horizon League big Megan Walstad on the Panthers, and finished with a team-high 17 points along with five rebounds, three blocks and three steals.
While Veronica Burton struggled from the field, she finished with nine points, six rebounds, five assists, two steals and two blocks. She continues to lead the Big Ten in steals per game and free throw percentage.
Northwestern's field goal percentage defense ranks second in the Big Ten and in the top 60 nationally at 35.6 percent. The 'Cats have held five opponents this season under 50 points and eight under 40% from the field.
Temple is 5-4 to start the season under acclaimed head coach Tonya Cardoza. The Owls have wins over Bucknell (RPI 59), Villanova and Georgetown on their resume and losses to FGCU (RPI 23), Princeton (RPI 25).
The 'Cats have never faced Temple in program history. The last team from the American Conference they faced was UCF in the first round of the NCAA Tournament in 2021, a historic 62-51 win.
