EVANSTON, Ill. – Northwestern outlasted Milwaukee in a defensive battle for a 55-46 win on Tuesday night at Welsh-Ryan Arena.

The Wildcats improved to 8-3 on the season and won their fourth straight contest while also improving their unblemished record at home to 6-0. The Panthers dropped to 4-7 overall.

The 'Cats limited their fifth opponent this season under 50 points. The Blizzard defense held Milwaukee to just 29% from the field and 10% from three while causing 18 turnovers.

Northwestern was without Sydney Wood and Jillian Brown, but saw massive contributions from up and down the roster, with 20 points off the bench including 15 from the junior tandem of Laya Hartman and Kaylah Rainey with two triples apiece

First-year Caileigh Walsh had her fingerprints on the gritty win, finishing with 17 points, five rebounds, three blocks and steals. She continues to lead the Big Ten in steals per game.

Senior Veronica Burton struggled from the field, but finished with nine points, six rebounds, five assists, two blocks and two steals. With under two minutes to go, she produced the biggest play of the game with a clutch layup to make it a two-possesion game.  Northwestern continues its December homestand on Friday night when it hosts Temple for a 7 p.m. CT tipoff. Fans are encouraged to attend Willie's Winter Wonderland in the two hours before the game, a holiday tailgate outside Welsh-Ryan Arena with winter-themed activities, great eats, and entertainment.
