Wildcats Sauté Delaware for Third Straight Win

EVANSTON, Ill. – Down three key contributors, Northwestern put together a complete team performance to dominate Delaware, 76-53, on Saturday afternoon at Welsh-Ryan Arena.
The Wildcats improved to 7-3 on the season and dropped the Blue Hens to 6-4. Northwestern has now won three straight games and improves to 5-0 at home this season.
The 'Cats finished with 19 assists and saw nine different players on the scoresheet, while limiting Delaware to just 30% shooting from the field and 27% from deep.
Without senior Sydney Wood, graduate Lauryn Satterwhite and first year Jillian Brown, the 'Cats saw the first career start from Jasmine McWilliams and the second career start from Melannie Daley.
The story of the day, however, was junior Laya Hartman who set career-highs across the board with 12 points, eight rebounds, four assists in 25 minutes on 5-9 shooting. She finished tied for a game-high +25 in plus/minus.
Senior guard Veronica Burton's exemplary control of the game was on display yet again, as she finished with 17 points on 6-9 shooting, six assists, five rebounds and four steals. She was also a +25 in 33 minutes.
First year forward Caileigh Walsh led all scorers on the afternoon with 18 points, including a 3-6 mark from downtown, to go with five rebounds, two assists and two blocks. She is now above 10 points per game in her scoring average – the last Wildcat first-year to do so was Lindsey Pulliam in 2017-18.
First year guard Melannie Daley chipped with an efficient 12 points on 5-8 shooting and four rebounds and two assists.
Northwestern continues its homestand on Tuesday, when it hosts Milwaukee at Welsh-Ryan Arena. Tip-off is set for 7 p.m. CT and will be streamed on B1G+.
