EVANSTON, Ill. – Northwestern travels to College Park this Sunday to take on No. 10 Maryland, the second seed in the conference, in the Big Ten Tournament quarterfinals. Kickoff is set for 12 p.m. CT. at Ludwig Field.
The Wildcats are riding off of a 3-1 victory against Michigan State this past weekend to close out the regular season. Sophomore Justin Weiss scored twice, bringing his season tally to eight goals. Weiss is currently tied with Maryland's Ben Bender for the most goals in the Big Ten. The 'Cats also saw a goal from graduate defender Spencer Farina in the win which ultimately moved the team to 3-5 in the Big Ten, and 6-8-2 overall.
Weiss landed on the All-Big Ten first team this week as a forward while first year midfielder Collin McCamy was named to the Big Ten all-freshman team.
Maryland is 5-2-1 in the Big Ten and 12-3-1 overall. Maryland's offense is led by Bender who leads the Big Ten in points.
This will be the second time the Cats visit Maryland this season after a frustrating 3-1 loss in October. Northwestern opened with a goal from Vicente Castro, but unfortunately fell to Maryland in the second half.
The Cats will have to take down Maryland this Sunday to remain in the Big Ten tournament, and earn a spot in the semifainls, which will take place Wednesday evening.
