EVANSTON, Ill. – Northwestern finishes its season-opening three game homestand on Wednesday night against crosstown foe Loyola. Tipoff is set for 7 p.m. CT on B1G+ as the Wildcats look to improve to 3-0.
The program welcomes back two former Wildcat standouts in Abi Scheid and Maggie Lyon, who are on the Rambler staff under head coach Kate Achter. Scheid is the director of basketball operations while Lyon is an assistant coach.
Scheid played with the current senior and junior classes and was an integral member of the 2020 Big Ten Championship Team. She finished as a All-Big Ten first team selection that season.
Lyon finished her four year career at Northwestern in 2016 as the seventh highest scorer in program history and the program leader in career three-point field goals. She was a four-time All-Big Ten honorable mention.
The Wildcats are coming off a 72-46 win over UC Santa Barbara on Wednesday, their second game holding an opponent under 50 points. The 'Cats forced 21 turnovers and limited the Gauchos to 32% from the field and 25% from deep.
Courtney Shaw notched her second double-double in row with 12 points and 11 boards while adding a career-high five steals. She currently leads the Big Ten in rebounds per game with 11.5
Veronica Burton dominated affairs with 20 points on 7-13 shooting and 4-6 shooting from deep, while racking up seven assists, five steals, three rebounds and a block.
Northwestern is 24-0 all-time against Loyola, with the last win coming in 2015 at Gentile Arena. Maggie Lyon scored 15 points in the 81-72 victory.
