Wildcats Roll Over Ramblers and Improve to 3-0

EVANSTON, Ill. – Northwestern dismantled Loyola 63-47 at Welsh-Ryan Arena Wednesday night. The 'Cats have held their opponents under 50 points for the first three games of this season.
Once again, Joe McKeown's blizzard defense was on full display as the 'Cats held the Ramblers to just 29% from the field and from deep. Northwestern came away with 17 steals and forced a whopping 26 turnovers.
These takeaways translated into 17 points for the Wildcat offense, which outpaced Loyola in every category. Northwestern started out hot, going 11-15 from the floor in the first quarter and shooting 60% from deep. In all, eight 'Cats found the basket and came up with a steal.
Senior guard Veronica Burton ran the Northwestern offense with poise, dishing out seven assists in just the first quarter. Once again, she led the Wildcats with 16 points and three steals. Burton went 4-4 from the line and has yet to miss a free throw this season.
Senior forward Courtney Shaw turned in another solid performance, putting up 12 points and grabbing five boards; in addition to three steals and a block on the defensive end.
First-years Jillian Brown and Caileigh Walsh continue to make an impact on the floor for the Wildcats. Walsh stuffed the stat sheet with nine points, four boards, two blocks and a steal. Brown led Northwestern with eight boards to go along with eight points, two steals and a block of her own.
Northwestern will travel across town on Sunday to face DePaul for their first road game of the season. Tip-off is set for 5 p.m. CT on the Big East Digital Network.
