Wildcats Wrap Up Fall Season At Betsy Kuhle Invitational

KALAMAZOO, Mich. – Northwestern wrapped up its fall schedule with graduate Ema Lazic and sophomores Aino Alkio and Justine Leong competing at Western Michigan's Betsy Kuhle Invitational.
All three Wildcats won their first singles match on Friday. Ema Lazic finished off her opponent in two sets (7-5, 6-5), while Justine Leong (1-6, 6-4, 1-0) and Aino Alkio (6-0, 4-6, 1-0) battled for three-set wins in round one. After their first round wins, Lazic, Leong, and Alkio all fell in two sets in Friday's second round.
In Saturday's singles matches, Leong defeated Popovic of Marquette, 7-5, 7-5, while Lazic defeated Oakland's Glazbrook, 6-0, 6-2. Alkio took one set in her Saturday match which did not name a winner.
On the doubles court, Justine Leong and Aino Alkio split their two games together, while Lazic and Alkio were victorious in their one match together. Aino Alkio also paired with Elizabeth Ferman of Marquette for one doubles match, with the duo winning 6-4.
After a successful fall season, Northwestern tennis will return on January 15, 2022 for the Wildcat Invite at the Combe Tennis Center.
