BLOOMINGTON, Ind. – The Wildcats took down Indiana 3-1 on the road, buoyed by strong performances by Temi Thomas-Ailara and Leilani Dodson.
For the third game in a row, Thomas-Ailara and Dodson have led the Northwestern offense posting 19 and 16 kills respectively against the Hoosiers. Thomas-Ailara rounded out her offensive strength with 13 digs, giving her another double-double.
Dodson and Thomas-Ailara shone from the service line, grabbing two and three aces respectively. The pair was also lethal at the net, with Thomas-Ailara registering three blocks and Dodson finding a game-high four solo blocks alongside Ella Grbac.
The 'Cats dominated Indiana in the first set and led from the first serve. They also found two late five point runs to take the set 25-13 and get off to an early lead. Indiana responded to an abysmal first set performance with a narrow second set win, tying things up at 1-1.
Northwestern was not having it and started off the third set on an 8-0 run with Megan Miller at the service line to set the tone for the rest of the match. Taking the third set 25-10, the Wildcats went into the final set with all the momentum.
Once again, the 'Cats started out strong with Miller having a five-point run from the service line. Indiana never battled back from that initial deficit and dropped the final set 25-19, giving the 'Cats a strong win on the road.
The Wildcats will return to the court for a double-header weekend at Welsh-Ryan Arena. On Friday they will face No. 4 Wisconsin at 7 p.m. before their rematch with Indiana on Sunday at noon.
