Cross Country Heads to Big Ten Championships

UNIVERSITY PARK, Penn. — Northwestern cross country will compete in the Big Ten Championships hosted in University Park, Pennsylvania Friday. The women's 6K race begins at 10:30 a.m. CT.
The course traverses Penn State's two 18-hole golf courses, a track the Wildcats excelled on at the Penn State National Open earlier this month. Northwestern posted a third-place finish as a team, while Lotte van der Pol, Kalea Bartolotto and Rachel McCardell all placed in the top 10. Van der Pol led the way for the 'Cats, clocking in at 21:10.8 on the 6K.
Northwestern enters the Championships ranked fifth in the Midwest in the latest NCAA Division I Women's Cross Country Regional Rankings. McCardell has played a major role in that ranking, earning Big Ten Athlete of the Week honors earlier this season after winning the Redbird Invitational. She paced all Wildcats at the Big Ten Championships last January with a 6K time of 21:05.5.
