McColgan and Pratt Advance to ITA Fall Championships

COLUMBUS, Ohio – Hannah McColgan and Sydney Pratt qualified for the ITA Fall Championships as a doubles pair after reaching the ITA Midwest Super Regionals doubles final this weekend at Ohio State. The 'Cats also had six individuals compete in the 32-player singles tournament, the most of any school at the event, with Clarissa Hand reaching the semi-final.
 
The Northwestern duo competed in a field of the 16-best doubles pairs in the Midwest for a spot in the ITA Fall Championships. After defeating the fourth-ranked Notre Dame pair in the opening round, McColgan and Pratt took down Brown and Miller of Michigan by a score of 8-7. The pair upset No. 1 seed Kolie Allen and Isabelle Boulais of Ohio State 8-5 in the semifinal, to advance to the final. They fell 8-1 in the final round to Ratliff/Cantos Siemers of Ohio State. By reaching the final, McColgan and Pratt qualified for the ITA Fall Championships and will travel to San Diego, Calif. next Thursday, Nov. 4.
 
Clarissa Hand and Maria Shusharina both excelled in the 32-player Singles field. Hand, the No. 3 seed, knocked off opponents from Illinois, Michigan State to advance to the quarterfinal. Hand took down No. 6 seed Jaedan Brown of Michigan 6-7, 6-3, 7-5 in the quarterfinal, before falling in two sets to No. 2 Kari Miller of Michigan in the semis. Shusharina won two matches to reach the quarterfinals, taking down Carrie Beckman of Notre Dame (6-3, 2-6, 6-2) and Katherine Duong of Illinois (7-6 (2), 6-4). 
 
Justine Leong, Ema Lazic, Briana Crowley, and Hannah McColgan also competed in the Singles tournament. Leong upset No. 8 Ava Markham of Wisconsin (6-1, 7-6) in the opening round, while Crowley took down Julia Andreach of Notre Dame (7-6(9), 7-6(5)).
