Evanston, IL - Northwestern Women's Fencing impressed at the 43rd Remenyik Open in the team's first competition of the 2021 season.

It was an all-Northwestern final in the women's sabre, as Sky Miller and Thea Nguyen battled for first-place on Sunday. Both Wildcats breezed through pool play and entered direct elimination seeded No. 1 (Nguyen) and No. 2 (Miller), before Miller pulled off a 15-9 upset to take first place in the final.

Two more 'Cats snagged silver medals in the women's foil and women'e epee. Anna Biasco charged through direct elimination as the No. 12 seed in the women's foil, where the Chicago native defeated top-seeded Josephina Conway 15-13 before falling in the final.

First-year Hanna Lipthay was just as impressive in her first appearance as a Wildcat, taking second in the women's epee as the No. 6 seed.

Lipthay also scored in the junior epeee, joining Levi Hoogendoorn (junior sabre) on the scoresheet for the Wildcats. Hoogendoorn swept through pool play before marching to the semifinals in her first competition of the season.

The 'Cats are back in the action at next weekend's Temple Open in Philadelphia.
