EVANSTON, Ill. – The No. 22 Northwestern Wildcats look to get back on track on Wednesday as they travel to Madison to take on Wisconsin. Tip-off is set for 3 p.m. on Big Ten Network.
The 'Cats (4-2, 2-2 B1G) are coming off their first two losses of the season, losing on a buzzer-beater to Nebraska on Thursday and dropping a ranked matchup on Sunday to No. 16 Michigan.
Despite 19 points from Sydney Wood, tying her career-high, Northwestern was unable to overcome its poor shooting performance against the Wolverines. The Wildcats shot just 31.0% from the field and 15.8% from behind the arc.
After averaging 5.1 points per game last season, Wood has scored in the double-digits every game this year. She is averaging 14.7 points and 5.8 rebounds per game, both good for second best on the team.
Junior Veronica Burton is also having a career-year on the offensive end. The Newton, Mass. native leads the Wildcats with 17.8 points per game, 5.5 assists per game and a 40% three-point percentage (12-of-30).
Burton, the reigning Big Ten Defensive Player of the Year, has yet to miss a beat on the defensive end, leading the nation with 4.67 steals per game.
Led by Burton, the Wildcats continue to post incredible ball security and defensive numbers, leading the country with a +14.67 turnover margin.
Wednesday will mark the 74th meeting between Northwestern and Wisconsin, with the Wildcats leading the all-time series 41-32. The 'Cats defeated the Badgers 82-66 in their only meeting last season thanks to 28 points from Lindsey Pulliam.
