EVANSTON, Ill. – No. 23 Northwestern faces a tough challenge on the road Thursday with their second match-up against Iowa. The tip-off is set for 5 p.m. CT on the Big Ten Network from Iowa City.
The Wildcats have retained their fifth place spot in the Big Ten with a 6-3 record (8-3 overall). They are ahead of Iowa, currently in seventh place with a 5-3 conference record, by one game.
Northwestern is coming off a difficult game against the Hoosiers that ended in a disappointing fourth quarter loss. They are hoping to bounce back with another win against the Hawkeyes after defeating them 77-67 three weeks ago, Iowa's largest margin in a loss.
Senior Jordan Hamilton led the way in their last win against Iowa, posting a season high 19 points. Juniors Veronica Burton and Sydney Wood were close behind with 18 and 17 respectively. The 'Cats also posted a season high three-point percentage against the Hawkeyes coming in at .467.
The 'Cats locked things down on defense too in their last meeting with Iowa; forcing 18 turnovers and holding star guard Caitlin Clark to only eight points, her lowest total so far this season.
Veronica Burton was recently named to the 2021 Naismith Women's Defensive Player of the Year Watch List. She currently sits at the top of the Big Ten and second in the country in total steals and steals per game.
