"One Step Closer" - By Sydney Supple

What do you do when you've been knocked down? Get back up and respond.

Our response after the Minnestoa battle looked a little something special, with Danielle Williams throwing a perfect game for only the fifth time in program history (and being the first to do it in a seven-inning game since the great Lisa Ishikawa did it in 1984) and Rachel Lewis sending the ball way out of the park in her first at-bat and being a double shy of a cycle in game one. The statement was clear as day for anyone watching: 'the 'Cats were back'.

When you see a team who is down six runs walking around like it is still their game, that is dangerous. That is who we became in game two versus Iowa. We proved that as long as we have one out to give and the bat still in our hands, we are capable of putting together seven-consecutive hits in a row and taking the game back in our own hands.

This past weekend put us one step closer to where we want to be, but the decision is ours moving forward to this weekend versus Michigan on where we want to go from here. It is no secret that a lot of us on this team picked to play at Northwestern and wear purple for this matchup that would lead to us competing for a Big Ten Championship. Every person on this team chose to play here because they believed we could win it all and that belief continues to be alive in us today, in the middle of our season, as we prepare for this series.

One step closer to what work we've worked towards for months.
One step closer to becoming the best version of our team.
One step closer to competing for why we all came here.

Sincerely,
Sydney #26
