Wildcats Welcome Graduate Transfer Tight End John Raine

EVANSTON, Ill. – Dan & Susan Jones Family Head Football Coach Pat Fitzgerald has announced the addition of graduate transfer tight end John Raine to the Wildcats 2020 roster. 

Raine, who received an undergraduate degree in management this past spring, appeared in 42 games for Florida Atlantic from 2016-19. In each of his four years with the Owls, Raine saw his receiving numbers improve, finishing his career with 56 receptions for 530 yards and seven touchdowns.

In 2019 the Miami, Fl. native earned All-Conference USA honorable mention accolades after posting 38 receptions for 343 yards and six touchdowns to help lead the Owls to their second C-USA Championship in three years.

Raine opened the 2019 season hauling in a touchdown reception in three of his first four games. In the Owls' 2019 Cheribundi Boca Raton Bowl victory, he posted a career-high seven receptions for 73 yards and a touchdown.
 
At Florida Atlantic, Raine played alongside fellow tight end Harrison Bryant, who received the John Mackey Award in 2019 as the nation's top tight end and was recently drafted in the fourth round of the 2020 NFL Draft by the Cleveland Browns.

Raine attended Westminster Christian School and starred as a two-sport athlete in football and basketball, earning Offensive Player of the Year honors for both programs as well as being named Westminster Christian Male Athlete of the Year. In his senior season at Westminster Christian, Raine tallied 24 receptions for 223 yards and four touchdowns.

Northwestern is scheduled to open the 2020 campaign with a Big Ten Conference showdown at Michigan State on Saturday, Sept. 5. Kickoff time in East Lansing will be announced at a later date.
