Amonte Hiller rebuilt the Wildcat lacrosse program in the early 2000s and led them to seven national championships in 10 years. She becomes only the eighth Division I women's lacrosse coach to reach 300 career wins.
Junior Lauren Gilbert earned a career high of six goals and led the 'Cats in scoring. Sophomore Izzy Scane followed close behind and matched her season high with five goals. Northwestern's defense was also on display with seven caused turnovers, while sophomore goalkeeper Madison Doucette led the field with eight saves.
The Wildcats opened up scoring with free-position shots from graduate student Liza Elder and junior Taylor Pinzone, but Stanford fired back and held the lead for most of the first half. After going down five, Scane gave the Northwestern offense the boost it needed to storm back against the Cardinals.
Northwestern put up four goals in the last four minutes, with senior Megan Kinna and Gilbert scoring in the last ten seconds of the half to tie up the game, 10-10. Gilbert and Scane led the 'Cats with three goals apiece.
The 'Cats lit up the back of the net in the second half, outscoring Stanford 15 to 8. Senior Lindsey McKone and Gilbert both put three goals on the scoreboard. All told, nine 'Cats found the back of the net including first-years Jane Hansen and Dylan Amonte.
The Wildcats will be back in Ryan Fieldhouse Monday, March 9 at 6 p.m. to face off against No. 1 North Carolina.
