'Cats Head to Bloomington for B1G Championship

BLOOMINGTON, IND -- Northwestern's No. 22 men's swimming and diving will head to Bloomington, Ind. to compete in the Big Ten Championships this week. Races start Wednesday, Feb. 26 with final events concluding on Saturday, Feb. 29. 

The Wildcats closed out the regular season with an 8-5 record. They earned a 4-1 conference record, with the only loss coming from Wisconsin. The men's team will look to improve on last season's ninth place finish at the 2019 Big Ten Championships. 

Topping the list of 'Cats to watch is first-year Federico Burdisso. Burdisso tallied three Big Ten Freshman of the Week awards and two Big Ten Swimmer of the Week honors. He has already made his mark in the Northwestern record books in the 200 free, with a personal best and NCAA 'B' cut time of 1:34.15, and in the 200 fly, with a personal best and NCAA 'B' cut time of 1:44.14. Burdisso racked up 16 individual event wins this regular season.

Junior DJ Hwang enters the championships with a school-record setting time of 9:06.91 in the 1000 free. His personal best time of 15:15.52 in the 1650 free earned him a first-place finish at the 2019 TYR Invitational, one of 12 individual event wins on the season.

Sophomore Manuel Martos Bacarizo dominates the Northwestern backstroke. He recorded nine first-place finishes in the 200 back, coming in to Saturday's event with a personal best and NCAA 'B' cut time of 1:42.49.

On the diving boards, sophomore Yohan Eskrick-Parkinson will look to make his mark. Eskrick-Parkinson has earned Big Ten Diver of the Week honors and holds a Northwestern school record on the 1M. His current personal best score is 376.95.
