No. 18 Northwestern's Late Flurry Sinks Wisconsin on Road

2/22/2020 5:05:00 PM | Women's Basketball

MADISON, Wis. – No. 18 Northwestern held serve in their pursuit of a Big Ten title Saturday, downing Wisconsin 82-66 on the road the Kohl Center.

The Wildcats used a 14-0 run early in the fourth quarter to secure the win and eliminate the half-game gap at the top of the standings. At 24-3 overall and 14-2 in the conference, the Wildcats are now tied for Maryland for first place in the Big Ten, with two games left to play for both programs.

The win tied Northwestern's record for most wins in the NCAA era, which began in 1980, with the only Big Ten title-winning squad in school history, which won 24 games in 1989-90. The outright program record is 25 wins, set in 1978-79.

Junior guard Lindsey Pulliam capped off a dominant weekend with her second 25+ point game in a row, dropping 28 on the Badgers on an uber-efficient 13-20 clip from the field. The Silver Spring, Md. native added six rebounds and five assists as well.

Veronica Burton, Abi Scheid, and Sydney Wood each added double digits as well in a balanced offensive effort. Wood finished with 12 points on 6-7 shooting while racking up seven rebounds and four assists. Burton tallied 13 points, five rebounds and five assists, and Scheid nearly grabbed a double-double with 13 points and nine rebounds.

As a team, the Wildcats shot over 50 percent from the field and exactly 50 percent from behind the arc for the second game in a row.

Northwestern scored a crucial 19 points off of turnovers in the contest, and decimated the Badgers with ball movement, finishing with 23 assists.

The Wildcats quest for a Big Ten Title continues with a stern test on Tuesday on the road at Ohio State. A win would give the 'Cats an opportunity to clinch a share of the title at home on Saturday, Feb. 29. Tip off in Columbus is set for 5 p.m.
