Pollard Announces the Addition of Shusharina

EVANSTON, Ill. — Northwestern head women's tennis coach Claire Pollard has announced that Masha Shusharina has signed a National Letter of Intent to join the Wildcats for the 2020-21 academic year.

High School: Top-500 world ranking… Holds a 23-13 record professionally. 
 
Personal: Born Maria Shusharina on August 19, 2002 … Daughter of Shumilova Natalia and Shusharin Vladamir.
 
Shusharina on her Passion for Tennis: 
"The mental game in it is a challenge and that is what I like about tennis … You need to play the intellectual game, to be smarter than the opponent, analyze [their] actions."
 
"Emotions of victories cannot be described in words, you get proof that all difficulties, changes, and efforts were not for nothing and that is the best feeling. I remember all my wins as if it was yesterday."
 
Pollard on Shusharina:
"It has been a while since I've been this impressed with a player's maturity, organization, and commitment.  Maria exuded this throughout the recruiting process. She has high ambitions in the classroom and on the courts and we can't wait for her to join our program."
