EVANSTON, Ill. - The Wildcats secured their first Big Ten win Saturday afternoon topping the Nebraska Cornhuskers by a score of 62-57.

The Wildcats employed a balanced scoring attack with four players finishing with double figures. Sophomore Miller Kopp finished the game with 15 points making it his 11th game this season with 10+ points. First year Robbie Beran had his first career double-double finishing with career highs in points and rebounds. He finished with 10 points and 10 boards in his fourth start.

The Northwestern defense was also quite impressive, holding Nebraska to 31.3% shooting (21-of-67). A.J. Turner and Pete Nance both contributed two blocks.

Pat Spencer led the Wildcats from the tip, scoring eight of the first fourteen points for the Wildcats. The graduate transfer led the 'Cats with 12 points and eight rebounds in the half. Spencer has scored double-digit points in his last three games.

The 'Cats exploded with a 16-1 run to take a 36-19 lead with 4:26 to go in the first half. The run was sparked by an A.J. Turner triple who finished with six in the stanza. Northwestern also forced three turnovers in the run.

After holding Nebraska to no field goals over 6:21 towards the end of the opening frame, Northwestern held a 42-27 lead at halftime. The 'Cats dominated from behind the arc, making six of their first nine threes and shooting 57% for the half, outscoring the Cornhuskers 24 to 15 from the three-point line. Robbie Beran, Pat Spencer, A.J. Turner, and Miller Kopp all hit two triples in the first period.

In the second half, Northwestern continued to hold the Cornhuskers' offense at bay. They maintained their double-digit lead until the 3:14 mark in the second half. Nebraska brought it within three after a 9-0 run.

However, the Wildcats' defense prevailed as Pat Spencer closed out hard on a late three that would've tied the game. He caused the shot to fall into Miller Kopp's hands, leading to two free throws for Kopp on the other end where he was able to secure the game for the 'Cats.

Chicago's Big Ten Team will be back in action at Welsh-Ryan Arena on Tuesday, Jan. 14 hosting the Iowa Hawkeyes at 7 p.m.
