
Wildcats Sweep Day 2 of Chicago Cup

CHICAGO, IL – Northwestern went 2-0 on a final day of play to clinch 2019 Chicago Cup. The Wildcats also had three players selected to the All Tournament team including junior Alana Walker, first-year Desiree Becker and tournament MVP, first-year Temi Thomas-Ailara.
Northwestern opened the day defeating UIC 3-0 to extend their meeting record to 28-4 in all-time meetings.
Led by Thomas-Ailara, the 'Cats controlled the match from the opening serve, dominating UIC 25-20 in the first set, 25-18 in the second and 25-23 in the third. On offense, NU outhit the flames 44-37. Led by senior Olivia Viscuso and Walker who combined for nine total blocks, the Wildcats controlled the net, out blocking UIC 11-2.
Chicago's Big Ten Team was back on the floor to later that evening to take on host DePaul in the final match of the tournament. Once again led by Thomas-Ailara, the 'Cats outhit the Blue Demons 36-29, with a team hitting percentage of .405. The Wildcats dominated DePaul the entire match, holding them to under 20 in all three sets.
This tournament wraps up nonconference play for Northwestern, with a 9-3 record. The Wildcats will kick off Big Ten play on September 27 against Iowa at Welsh-Ryan Arena.

- For the seventh consecutive game, the 'Cats were led in kills by Thomas-Ailara who amassed 14 kills for her seventh consecutive double-digit game. Walker led the team in hitting percentage, finishing with .500 pct. on 12 kills

- Led by 14 combined blocks from Viscuso and Becker, NU out blocked DePaul 16-2
