For the past week, it has been nothing but positive results for head coach Tracey Fuchs and the Wildcats, who are now riding a four-game winning streak. The 'Cats earned back-to-back shutouts on Sunday and Monday, including a 2-0 victory on the road at No. 15 Wake Forest, marking the third top-25 victory for NU this season. The Wildcats stand at an impressive 6-2 and will now head off for a weekend trip to Ohio to open up Big Ten play at 2 p.m. on Friday, Sept. 20 at Ohio State, followed by another non-conference game at 11 a.m. on Sunday, Sept. 22 at Miami (Ohio).
In NU's three victories last week over UMass Lowell, Wake Forest and Ball State, the 'Cats demonstrated balance in all aspects of the game. It was an all-out blitz of offense against the River Hawks on Friday, as redshirt junior Lakin Barry and redshirt first-year Bente Baekers notched two goals each in Northwestern's 7-2 victory. The 'Cats scored six of those seven goals in an incredible 14:04 stretch to where they never looked back. The aforementioned pairing held their own again at Wake Forest, both finding the back of the net in the shutout win. Baekers now leads the Big Ten in goals (eight) and points (17), and the Dutch native earned her second Big Ten Freshman of the Week recognition on Monday. Barry was also named the Big Ten Offensive Player of the Week, giving the 'Cats their fourth weekly award in just three weeks of play.

Northwestern traveled to Durham, N.C. over the weekend and emerged victorious over Blue Devil Classic hosts, Duke, and the American Eagles. Multiple Wildcats continued their promising play throughout the first month of the season, including first-year Temi Thomas-Ailara. Her 32 kills against AU is the most of any Wildcat in four sets and the most of any first-year in program history. It was the sixth consecutive game where the Glenwood, Ill., native recorded at least 10 finishers. Senior Payton Chang was stellar in all three matches, highlighted by a 30-assist performance against Duke, her sixth 30+ helper mark in eight matches played.
The Wildcats will be close to home this weekend as they compete in the Chicago Cup. The first of three matches will be at 4 p.m. on Friday, Sept. 20 against Loyola, followed by a two-pack on Saturday at 10 a.m. against UIC and at tournament hosts DePaul at 8 p.m. The Chicagoland based tournament will be the final set of non-conference contests for NU prior to beginning Big Ten play next week.

The Wildcats faced off a pair of in-state foes last week in Western and Eastern Illinois, emerging victorious against the Leathernecks and Panthers on Thursday and Sunday, respectively. Senior Matt Moderwell scored his first goal of the season in the 3-2 win against WIU, finding the back of the net just 28 seconds in. The 'Cats continued to keep their foot on the gas, finding another tally courtesy of Richie Bennett at the nine-minute mark. Despite an equalizer from the Leathernecks in the 22nd minute, NU stood tall in the second half, allowing only two shots and eventually finding the winner off Garrett Operman's penalty in the 86th minute.
The 'Cats battled with the Panthers with sophomore Bardia Kimiavi scoring the lone goal of the match and his second tally of the season. The Reston, Va., native has been fantastic through the first six games of the year, leading the team in points (six), and tied for shots on goal (four) and assists (two).
Head coach Tim Lenahan's side officially begins Big Ten play at 6 p.m. this Friday, Sept. 20, at Maryland. This week marks the first time this season that the 'Cats don't have multiple games on the docket, allowing the team to rest up before traveling to College Park, Md.

It was a close tilt against No. 18 Kansas on Sept. 13 for Northwestern, and despite falling short the Wildcats saw plenty of positives heading into conference play this week at 7 p.m. on Friday, Sept. 20. in Urbana-Champaign against Illinois. First-year goalkeeper Mackenzie Wood chipped in for three saves, holding the Jayhawks' lead to just one throughout the game. Junior midfielder Regan Steigleder continued to be a rock for head coach Michael Moynihan, recording her seventh consecutive start, playing for a minimum 90 minutes for the sixth time this year and created the best chance of the game for Northwestern on a header from a corner kick.
