
'Cats Pick Up Another Ranked Win at No. 15 Wake Forest

EVANSTON, Ill. – No. 13 Northwestern extended its winning streak to three and picked up its fourth ranked win of the season with a 2-0 victory at Wake Forest on Sunday afternoon.
The Wildcats and Demon Deacons entered the fourth quarter locked in a scoreless tie before redshirt first-year Bente Baekers and redshirt junior Lakin Barry each scored to secure the win for the 'Cats. Northwestern improves to 5-2 on the season, with its only losses coming to No. 3 UConn and No. 2 Duke in double overtime.
Baekers and Barry each finished the weekend with three goals in the Wildcats' two wins. Saar De Breij and Maren Seidel each added their first assists of the season on Sunday.
Junior goalkeeper Florien Marcussen earned her second shutout of the season in the net, tied for the second-most in the Big Ten behind only Ohio State's Aaliyah Hernandez.
Baekers broke the tie early in the fourth quarter, scoring off a defender deflection to give the 'Cats a 1-0 advantage. She now has a team-high seven goals on the season, which also leads all players in the Big Ten. Her goal also proved to be the eventual game-winner, marking the second game this season she has scored the eventual game-winning goal (also vs. Cal on Sept. 2), additionally, her 15 points on the season are also tied for the most in the Big Ten.
With just under four minutes remaining in the game, Barry put the game out of reach with a goal off a cross that was assisted by Maren Seidel. Barry now ranks second on the team with four goals on the season.
Chicago's Big Ten Team will look to extend its winning streak on Monday at 6 p.m. as they return to Lakeside Field to face off against Ball State, who fell to UMass Lowell, 2-1, in a neutral site game in Evanston on Sunday.
