DENVER - Following a dominant senior campaign at Colorado Academy, incoming Wildcat Marianna Annest was announced as the Gatorade Colorado Girls Soccer Player of the Year on Thursday.

Annest was a key contributor to her side's attack, scoring 39 goals and adding 16 assists during the season from a defensive position. She rose to the occaision in her squad's biggest contest of the season, netting two goals in an 3-0 win against Jefferson Academy to capture the Colorado Class 3A state championship. Overall, she finished her career with 68 goals and 26 assists for the Mustangs.

"To be a part of a group that can get us back here and to know (we've) made history for our school, this is a group that's unbelievable," Annest told NBC9 News during the spring.

With the departure of four defensive-minded seniors from the 2018 roster, Annest will have an opportunity to be an early contributor on the Wildcats back line. When she wasn't on the pitch or in the classroom working towards a 4.21 weighted GPA, Annest volunteered in community service projects and served as a youth soccer coach as well.

"We are graduating a class of 10 seniors, many of which have started for us all four years, so this is a very important class for keeping our program's momentum going, and they will be called upon immediately to make an impact," head coach Michael Moynihan said on National Signing Day in  November. "This class also displays a real passion for soccer and a drive to keep improving, so we are very excited about our future with them."

Annest and her classmates will arrive in Evanston this summer, and kick off the 2019 season at Martin Stadium in August.
