BALTIMORE, Md. – The Northwestern lacrosse team was bested in the NCAA Semifinal Friday evening at Homewood Field, falling to No. 1 Maryland, 25-13.

The Wildcats closed out their season with a 16-4 record overall and 7-1 in their last eight games.

The Terrapins got out a quick start, putting up three unanswered goals before first-year Izzy Scane reeled off two back to back goals to bring the 'Cats within one. After a fourth Maryland, The Wildcats answered with back to back goals from Scane and senior Selena Lasota.

The Big Ten foes traded goals, with two from junior Lindsey McKone and one from senior Liza Elder to bring the score to 11-7 going into halftime.

Lasota scored quickly coming out of the break before Maryland responded with two goals of their own. A third goal from Lasota helped to spark a 5-3 Wildcat run to bring NU within three at 16-13. The goal from Scane with just over 19 minutes left would be the last score from the 'Cats.

The first-year led with a team-high five goals, continuing her goal streak to 18 games. The Michigan native finished with a team-high six points, secured four draw controls and caused two turnovers.

With 181 draw controls on the year, sophomore Brennan Dwyer claims the single season draw control record, surpassing the previous record of 169 set by Shelby Fredericks in 2017.

Tewaaraton finalist, Selena Lasota cements her name as one of the all-time Wildcat greats, extending her all-time goal record to 287, eclipsing Shannon Smith's previous record of 254 career goals. Lasota also claims the number two, five and nine spots on the Northwestern all-time single season goal list, finishing the season with 85 goals, just one shy of Shannon Smith's 86 set in 2011.
