Wildcats Drop Game One of Super Regionals to No. 1 Oklahoma, 3-0
5/24/2019 4:10:00 PM | Softball
Norman, Okla. – Despite a quality outing in the circle from Danielle Williams, Northwestern could not get its bats going in a 3-0 setback at No. 1 Oklahoma in game one of the NCAA Softball Super Regionals.
The Wildcats will be back in action in Norman tomorrow at 3 p.m. CT as they look to force a winner-take-all game three on Sunday. The game will be televised nationally on ESPN.
Williams allowed just three hits and two earned runs in 5.0 innings of work while striking out six. The rookie left-hander improves her season strikeout total to 316 on the season, surpassing Lauren Delaney in 2009 for the fifth-best single season mark in program history.
After allowing a run in the top of the first, Williams responded with two strikeouts to limit the damage. From there, she retired 11 of the next 14 batters she faced and kept the game within one run into the bottom of the fifth.
The 'Cats put two runners on in the top of the first via a walk from Morgan Nelson, extending her reached base streak to 33-consecutive games, and a single from Nikki Cuchran.
Rachel Lewis led off the sixth inning with a double off the left field wall, her ninth of the season and 23rd extra-base hit.
Kenna Wilkey took over to pitch in the sixth inning and tossed a scoreless frame while not allowing a hit.
