MURRELLS INLET, S.C. – The Northwestern men's golf team ended its season on Wednesday afternoon after a hard-fought third round in NCAA Myrtle Beach Regional.

FINAL RESULTS

The Wildcats were as close as three shots back from cracking the top-five but their even day was not enough to advance, finishing in eighth place. Illinois, Ohio State, Wake Forest, Cal and UNLV were the teams to advance to the NCAA Championships.

Ryan Lumsden, David Nyfjäll, Everton Hawkins and Lucas Becht all finished 1-under for the day highlighted by Hawkins' two eagles on No. 2 and No. 6 to gain momentum for the Wildcats in the 18-hole battle. Eric McIntosh finished the day at even par.

Nyfjäll finished his first NCAA Regional Tournament 3-under and tied for 12th. The Big Ten Freshman of the Year surpasses Luke Donald for the best first-year stroke average and the eighth best overall single-season stroke average at 71.72.

Lumsden leaves behind a an incredible legacy as a Wildcat. He now holds the third-best career stroke average in program history, trailing only Dylan Wu and former World No. 1 Luke Donald, two individual championships, 20 top-25 finishes and eight top-5 finishes.  Earlier this year, the senior was named the first Wildcat to receive the prestigious Byron Nelson Award.
