Northwestern To Host NCAA Regional

EVANSTON, Ill. – Northwestern secured one of the 16 top seeds in the the 2019 Softball Tournament on Sunday night and is set to host its first regional since 2008 at Sharon J. Drysdale Field.
Also joining the Wildcats in Evanston will be Louisville, Detroit Mercy and Southern Illinois. Northwestern will open action on Friday, May 17 against Detroit Mercy at 2:30 p.m. CT, with action being televised on ESPN3.

The winner of the Region will advance to face the winner of the Norman Region hosted by No. 1 seed Oklahoma.

This marks Northwestern's 18th overall appearance in the NCAA Tournament and the 13th in the 18-year Drohan era. NU has advanced to the NCAA Regional final seven times under the Drohans, winning its region four times and making two trips to the Women's College World Series.
This season, the Wildcats finished with a 43-10 overall record, already tied for the fourth-most wins in program history. Despite playing its first 25 games on the road, the Wildcats jumped out to a 19-6 record heading into conference play. The 'Cats did not slow down against Big Ten competition as they notched a 21-2 record in the Big Ten, the most conference wins in program history. Northwestern also excelled when facing the nation's top competition, as they accumulated a 16-8 record against Top-50 RPI teams.
The #B1GCats notched a 20-game winning streak from March 29 through May 4, the program's longest winning streak since 1985, with the team's only losses over the final seven weeks of the season coming against No. 8 Minnesota.
Last week, four Northwestern players were honored with All-Big Ten accolades, headlined by Danielle Williams being named the 2019 Big Ten Freshman of the Year along with head coach Kate Drohan was named the 2019 Big Ten Coach of the Year for the third time in her career.
