EVANSTON, Ill. – Northwestern is set to head north to Minneapolis this weekend to take part in the 2019 Big Ten Championships.

Athletes will start hitting the mats at 10 a.m. CT in Saturday, with preliminary, quarterfinal, and wrestleback matches scheduled for that days' sessions — I and II. Sunday will then begin at noon with the consolation semifinals and seventh-place matches, while the placement matches and championships will begin at 3 p.m.

SATURDAY
SESSION I — 10 a.m. CT
SESSION II — 6 p.m. CT

SUNDAY
SESSION III — 12 p.m. CT
SESSION IV — 3 p.m. CT

All matches will stream live on BTN2Go, with the final session broadcast on the Big Ten Network. Fans attending the tournament should take note of the University of Minnesota's bag policy.

The Big Ten Championships features some of the stiffest competition in the country. Six Big Ten schedules are in the top eight of the NWCA rankings, with nine schools ranked in the top 25. Last year, Big Ten wrestlers won six of the 10 National Championships, with a total of 12 wrestlers making the finals of their weight class. Eight wrestlers who have won a conference title return to the mat this year.

Ohio State's Kollin Moore and Rutgers' Anthony Ashnault are both looking to win their third individual title, while Ohio State looks to win its third Big Ten Championship.

Preliminary seeds were announced on Monday, and the full brackets will be announced on Friday. Nine Wildcats were seeded, including Sebastian Rivera getting the top spot at 125, and Ryan Deakin slotted third at 157.

The Big Ten's top eight wrestlers are seeded in seven weight classes (133, 141, 157, 174, 184, 197, 285), while all fourteen are seeded in the other three (125, 149, 165). The number of seeds in each weight class are determined by the number of automatic qualifiers for the NCAA Championships. Each program gets to enter one wrestler per weight class. The Big Ten gets 78 automatic qualifiers to the NCAA Championships across the weight classes, which can grow once the at-large bids are announced.

After Big Tens will be the NCAA Championships in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, on March 21-23 at PPG Paints Arena.
