Wildcats to Welcome Ohio for WNIT Quarterfinals

EVANSTON, Ill- After a come-from-behind victory over West Virginia on Wednesday night, the Northwestern Wildcats will host the Ohio Bobcats in the WNIT quarterfinals in Welsh-Ryan Arena, Saturday, March 30. Tip-off is set for 6 p.m. CT.
The Wildcats trailed by as many as 18 points midway through the second quarter against the Mountaineers, but clawed their way back to take the lead with 42 seconds remaining in the game thanks to a jumper from Lindsey Pulliam. With a two-point advantage on the game's final possession, Veronica Burton came up with a clutch steal and dribbled the clock out to secure the 'Cats a spot in the WNIT quarterfinals.
Burton led the Wildcats with 17 points, four assists and a game-high four steals. She also finished 7-of-8 from the charity stripe, a career high, including going 6-of-6 in the first half to help ignite the 'Cats' comeback. As a team, the Wildcats shot a blistering 83 percent from the free throw line, the highest percentage from the team this season.
Senior Pallas Kunaiyi-Akpanah was a dominant force on the boards, pulling down 19 rebounds to go along with 12 points, tying her single season double-double record of 18.
The Ohio Bobcats are the second MAC team Northwestern will face this season. The Wildcats took down Toledo in the second round of the WNIT, 54-47.
This is the first meeting between the two teams since the 1998-99 season and the third meeting all-time. The Wildcats own the series 2-0.
The winner of the Saturday night matchup will play the winner of James Madison and Georgetown in the WNIT semi-finals.
